Our chocolate lab is 16 months old and 5 days ago he stopped eating after vomiting up his food the night before. We thought it was the cheap bone we gave him, or the Trazodone medication he's had no issue with before. To get him to eat, we switched his food. He has food allergies. His jowls swelled pretty bad. Vet gave him steroid shot. He's also had achy joints for 3 days. Switched his food back to the regular in a different flavor. Today he woke up with horribly reddened and swollen eyes, vomiting overnight, still lethargic, still limping around achy.

Went back to the vet today. More blood work, mild fever. Lots more money. They think maybe leptospirosis (although he has been vaccinated and not a classic case) or possible autoimmune disease. Bloodwork was negative for tick borne illness but did show some inflammation I think.

We have to decide now if we want the very expensive autoimmune test done. I just want to cry for my dog. Any similar experiences?
