Our Vet has prescribed Fluoxetine (Prozac) for our over the top yellow lab. He is 10 months old and has lack of impulse control, lack of focus, and very reactive to people and dogs, even after three rounds of training classes and private training. He was being kicked out of daycare for not reading social cues of other dogs, and being out of control and not focused at the vet, and unproductive training classes we attempted with him because he’s so distracted by the trainers and other dogs. He would be the only dogs spazzing out in class. We are on week 3 of Fluoxetine and it can be 6-8 weeks before they say a noticeable difference of a less reactive, more trainable personality emerges. Just thought I’d see if anyone on this board was prescribed Fluoxetine (Prozac) and if they had a successful, more focused dog so that they could have success with training and more normal interactions with humans and dogs?
