Hello. Brand new to the forum so sorry if this hasn’t already been addressed. We just adopted two labs ages 6 and 7 (yes I know) and the 6 year old is overweight (120lbs) he is a bigger dog but could ideally get down to 100. We live active lifestyles and want to easily transition them into long walks, hiking, short and slow bike rides, etc. we are feeding them taste of the wild and would like to know good serving sizes to give them because I heard dog food portions may not always be entirely accurate. For his weight the serving guide says 6 1/2 cups a day which seems like quite a bit when we are trying to bring his weight down. Any thoughts or help?
Hello, I think most people find that recommended serving sizes are on the generous side. They want to sell dog food after all. I tend to give Meg about a quarter under...it keeps her trim. Definitely cut it back and increasing exercise will help as well. You might have to experiment a bit with amounts, it’s not an exact science. Congratulations on adopting, a wonderful thing to do
I feed raw and the advice is always to feed according to target weight ( whether dog is over or under). I can't see why this would be different if feeding processed food.
