    Hello,
I have two 11 year old dogs and now a 2 month old puppy. My problem is that after the puppy drinks from the water bowl, the two older dogs refuse to drink the water until it is dumped and freshened, as if the puppy has cooties. The new puppy is up to date on shots and worming. Why won't they drink after the puppy or is there a way to rectify this? Will they eventually get over it?

I think dogs are funny with water for reasons we can not fathom. I had a 13 year old malamute who used to share his water with my lab with no problems. He made the water yucky towards his end but Meg was fine with it. Now he is gone Meg totally refuses to drink the nice fresh water I give her and will only drink rain water outside. I have given up trying to coax her...it’s totally bonkers !

I have two Labs that have no problem sharing the water bowl. What is funny is that I normally put down two water bowls just to make sure they don't run out. They will normally empty one of them before making much of a dent in the other. They don't seem to favor one over the other, they could empty either one first. It may be that when Cooper starts drinking she drinks a lot of water. One bowl holds about a 1/2 gallon and the other about a gallon.

Cooties & funny! My cats have a nice water fountain on the counter and they drink the slimed dog water too.

I think they will get over it but maybe put another bowl out in another area?

Around here our black lab and two cats share the same water bucket. They mostly get along well together, except sometimes the younger cat messes with the older cat who just wants to be left alone. We love them all, they all live inside with us, and it is one big happy family.
