Here is Tux's back story from what I've been told: He is a 3yr old chocolate lab/pit mix.Initially loved by a couple who at one time trained and loved him, as he can understand basic commands. The couple divorced and he was placed in a shelter, for how long I don't know. He was then placed in a rescue from the shelter, again for I don't know how long. At the rescue, story is that he tunneled under his dog run to be with the dog in the next run. A young lady volunteering at the rescue with the horses offered to take him. It didn't work out with Tux and her two heelers so I got Tux from her. He is such a sweet dog! Being a nurse, not an animal vet tech or vet, I suspect he has a vision issue as he doesn't track things well and I suspect it has been there since birth.I have been having issues while I am at work with him chewing my woodwork on my floors, fireplace and walls. Yes he is fed before I leave for work, he has lots of toys and I have another dog, a 7yr old female (H2W) Husky/hound and wolf mix that is with him all the time. Tux has been neutered and chipped. (I have been an animal owner for years all rescues but not from a shelter) I have had him 4 months and yes, he does exhibit shelter behavior and conditioning. I have tried giving him Benadryl to calm him while I am gone, on the advice of my vet, to no avail. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. All the wood sprays on the market to stop chewing I have found to be a waste. I won't crate him as I don't crate my dogs and he has full access to the backyard and the house while I am gone.
How long are you gone for ? Maybe he’s bored ? Does he get a good run/exercise before he is left...my dog settles and is left with no problems but after a good zoom about ?
