Hello Members, our golden labrador who recrntly turned four. He recently developed a limp and we took him to the vet who said just give him a rest for a few days, which we have. However the limp has become more pronounced what could be the cause for this? There is no obvious signs of injury or pain when I examine different parts of his leg.

He is very active and get an hour of regular exercise every day without fail half of which has been going to the common and ruuning to retrieve a ball. Yours to does a lot of climbing stairs everyday because we have a two story house.

What could be the reason and when is it best to go back to the vet because going prematurely will simply mean a big bill. However he is v sad and it is difficult to take

I don’t think you can avoid going back to the vet if his limp is more pronounced. You really need to know what you’re dealing with.
In the meantime I would also limit his exercise, if you’re not already. Chasing after balls encourages lots of sudden stops, twists and turns and hard running, which could aggravate any injury. Maybe just walk him on lead until you’ve been back to the vet?
And if it’s at all possible to limit climbing stairs for now that would probably be helpful.
Hope he gets better soon and it’s nothing serious.
