    Hello

I just got my lab spayed and read that spayed/neutered dog should be fed less due to possible weight gain due to many reasons given in the articles I have read. Does this mean I should not feed the recommended portions as suggested on my dog's food guide. I do understand that they always recommend more than what is needed on the guide but beside that is it true that we should feed a spayed dog less? My lab will still be an active dog as she grows old she will not be reduced in activities, she will still be burning energy. My vet never said to reduce her feeding as she will gain weight over time?

    Thanks

I would just monitor her body condition and adjust her food accordingly. This is what I do with both my dogs (male & female, both neutered). I check every day and both of them are in great condition.

Willow tends to drop weight so I am constantly adjusting her feeds.
If your dog looks to be putting on a few pounds then reduce the amount a bit.
My Spaniel was spayed and only put weight on in her later less active years.

You should never be feeding the amount specified on the side of a packet, whether your dog is entire or neutered.

You should always be looking at and assessing your dog's weight in an objective way and using that to make decisions about feeding.
