Would realy like to read your thoughts on this subject.

Do you let your pup on the couch with you? Why?

Do you don't allow the pup on the couch with you? Why?

Does bringing the pup on the couch ruin the crate training?

Thanks in advance from a first time dog owner.

We didnt do the sofa up until recently. My mil doesnt do the sofa so and she was going to be helping more during work days but it has worked out differently. He always did jump up though as he got bigger.

I now allow sofa (5months) and wonder why I didnt sooner. I love our snuggles and far more comfier than me on the floor for them lol. He doesnt always choose the sofa though mainly in evenings when wind down is happening.

Meg has never been on the sofa. She learnt to settle in her bed really easily. She loves her bed, it’s at our feet and she sort of spils over onto them. She’s a mud magnet with daily swimming so would not want her drying out on the sofa really o_O:doug:

Our pup has a snooze on the sofa but is crate trained and goes in no problem at bed time etc.

Sometimes goes in her crate during the day for a nap!.

Our dogs go on the sofa or recliners. They each sleep in their own crate at night.

Hi our pup isn't allowed on the sofa because she always seems to be wet or muddy or both! She has a bed in each room and sleeps in them all and on our feet

Like Jade, my pup is allowed on the sofa and sleeps in his own crate. If the sofa is fully occupied he knows to lie down elsewhere.

There was recently another thread about dogs on the sofa. If you search for sofa or couch, you should get it up...

We allow our pup on the couch. We see it as, well he isnt allowed on OUR bed but the couch is fair game. For now we pick him up/put him down from the floor to couch & couch to floor.

We see it as, he has his own bed and has no business to be on ours (plus it's rather high up sooo we'd rather not risk him on a taller mattress - one platform frame). But we do enjoy the snuggles and relaxation time with him on the couch.

We have not noticed a single issue between allowing him on the couch and crate training. The crate is in our bedroom, not the livingroom, and also he has never set a paw on our bed so he has no clue what he's missing anyway. :)

One can use the furniture as part of the Premack Principle. A reward for something you are finding the dog is reluctant to do. You will need to be able to prevent your dog from getting up until released from the low-probability behaviour. Put getting up on a cue.

Our dogs were allowed on the sofa, though we put a cover over the one one in living room, since the fabric had an open weave. Cooper is often sitting beside us on the sofa, especially in the family room. We don't crate dogs after they are grown up and have the run of the house.

Puppy on the couch is 100% a personal choice. But puppy on couch means full grown adult on couch in the months to come. We don’t allow it and our boy is happy on his memory foam mattress. And also for us puppy on couch would have meant wet hunting dog on couch. Lol

Hunter is allowed on one of the couches but not the other. He mostly knows, but he occasionally tries his luck on the other. He's 50/50, sometimes he'll cuddle on the couch, sometimes he'll go sleep on his bed
