I'm looking for info on the effectiveness and safety of using tumeric and/or arnica for my 10 year old lab who has a bulging cervical disc.

I would be asking the vets advice on this. I presume your dog is already receiving veterinary treatment/painkillers for this extremely painful condition?

She is on a short course of Prednisone prescribed by the vet and has improved greatly. The vet also prescribed Gabapentin for pain but she had an unusual reaction to it and I'm reluctant to give it to her again. Our vet admits to knowing nothing about homeopathics and other remedies.

I would really recommend getting a referral to a specialist. My Weimaraner - at the time also 10yo - suffered an extruded disc (basically the stuff inside the disc was coming out and putting pressure on the spinal cord). She was in absolute agony and although we tried various things and sometimes detected some slight improvements, in the end she really needed surgery.

We got a referral to Fitzpatrick Referrals and saw Colin Driver there. She had an MRI (which diagnosed the above) and then immediately stayed in for surgery the next day. There is an excellent prognosis for the op and it was not very invasive at all - about 3 weeks later, she was out and about having off-leash exercise again.

She lived a further 3.5 painfree years after that, and I'd do it all again.
