Hunter is almost 5 months now and starting to lose his baby teeth but all of his teeth are pearly white, he eats good quality food and is really healthy, but as I said, his breath smells rotten all the time!

I'm going to buy one of those over the finger toothbrush things but meanwhile is this a vet issue? Or a hygiene one?

    Hi @Andrea0408
If he is starting to lose his baby teeth, then his gums could be an issue.

If the smell does not subside, then yes go to visit. Cleaning his teeth is a good idea too. Uncooked bones will help to keep his teeth clean too.

OMGosh. Right at 5 months my puppies breath smelled awful too! I'm like what's going on. Smells like coins/blood. Weird I know. Rotten. Loosing teeth as well. It's gone now but shes off Science Diet and eating homemade chicken and rice and veggies because that food made her sick. So I assumed it was the food. We are going to start her on a new food today because shes not sick anymore. I'll see if the skank breath comes back. Hope not. I did buy a toothbrush and puppy toothpaste at Petsmart. It's a gel. She wont let me brush them. But O do the gel every 3 to 4 days..because I forget. Lol

Unfortunately some dogs do have stinky breath. It's due to the specific bacteria living in their mouths. At times of teething, with all the raw gums and blood around, it may be due to that - but otherwise it can also be due to their own mouth microbiome as it were...
