Thanks @WillowA for your patience in answering all of my questions. Especially so, as I must confess I don't fully understand why your dog stops eating when you close the door to go upstairs.

Since your dog eats while alone in a kennel, my hunch is that your dog's behaviour is not something at the top of your training priorities.

If you feel the need to change her eating habit, then it may be worthwhile trying to feed your dog in completely new parts of the house. Try to vary whether you are within or not within sight. Keep varying the eating spot and vary your presence in an attempt to undo the habit she's seems to have developed.

Pleased to hear Willow's kennel visit went well. We had Kyko in for 10 days in March, we knew we would be kennelling him when we went on holiday, as he couldn't come with us. We weren't too bad as he goes to the kennels 1 day a week for daycare so already knows the owners & loves going there. But we were still a nervous wreck about how he would cope as he doesn't like being alone. We took his crate with him that he sleeps in every night & thanks to the Facebook updates we could see he wasn't missing us one little bit. He was very excited to see us when we picked him up & had lost a bit of weight which we put down to him not having the same volume of treats he gets at home & playing with the other dogs burning off his energy. I will say he behaved like an angel for about 3 days after we picked him up, then was back to his normal mischievous self. He's booked in again for 2 weeks in September & at least this time I can relax knowing he'll be well looked after in a place he feels happy & secure
