On the back of my 14 month old lab he's losing hair like a patch it's coming out in chunks and he looks like he has flakey skin can anyone give some advise my vets not open till Monday
Re: My labrador losing a hair How big is the patch? What shape is it? Ringworm could be a possibility.
Re: My labrador losing a hair He has a tablet once a month for that can they still get it with the tablets? And a good size patch
Re: My labrador losing a hair Despite the name, Ringworm is not actually a worm It is a fungal skin infection, like tinea. Tablets that you give your dog for intestinal worms will have no effect on ringworm. It needs a completely different treatment. Ringworm can be treated using the skin creams that you use for human ringworm or tinea. I'm not sure which country you are in but we (in Australia) used Solveasy cream when our Lab got ringworm from his daycare about 8 months ago. We put it on once a day for one to two weeks. Wash all the dog's bedding in a hot wash in the washing machine too. What your dog has many not be ringworm though. Is it possible to take your dog to the vet for a diagnosis? If that is not possible can you take a photo and work out how to put it in this thread? I use a Flickr account to host my photos, which allows you to paste the link to the photo into a thread.
Re: My labrador losing a hair My 2 and a half year old lab has allergies and she started losing hair and getting flakey skin - that was the start of them. Hibiscrub calms her skin quite quickly or failing that we use aloe vera gel - soothes the skin and our vet is a big proponent of it - you can get it at any superstore or pharmacy and should help until you get him to a vet. Hope this helps.
Re: My labrador losing a hair I thought you might be in Oz too (going by your username ) A vet visit sounds like a good plan. Would love to hear how you get on.
