Hello guys I have a question, how on earth do I stop my dog from being dog aggressive ? I have looked everywhere for answers and none have worked for him, when he sees a dog he barks and lunges.does anyone know how to stop this??? Xxxxx
Hi @Holli wild I think we need more information. 1. Why do you say the barking and lunging is aggressive behaviour? Please describe your dog's eyes, mouth, and tail when this behaviour is occurring. Could it be that your dog wants to play, and is frustrated by the constraint of the lead? 2. What have you tried so far?
Hi Holli, Where are you located? If Michael can help you identify the issue(s), and if it turns out your pup is reactive on leash, you could try to find a "reactive rover" class near you - maybe start with Google or look at the websites of your local SPCA. These classes are pretty common in the US. It goes without saying you want a trainer who uses positive methods, i.e. reward based training. It can be helpful to ask in advance about expectations for out of class work (homework) so you can plan accordingly. Apologies in advance if you've already tried this.
I know my dog is aggressive to others dogs as his ears are up and he barks his teeth and launches to other dogs trying to bite him,the only problem is that his whole family (mum dad and 5 siblings) have all bitten dogs before except him and he gazes at dogs and it’s hard to pull his gaze off others . I live on an island where NO and I mean NO dog trainers are located here except puppy classes that teach sit stay cet... we have no dog behaviorists on the Isle of Man .does anyone now know how to help ??, xxxx
Holli, to help with on-leash reactivity, Look At That provides the easiest help the fastest: https://thelabradorforum.com/threads/look-at-that.22184/ But really I would recommend using some BAT and working with a CBATI. Many CBATIs offer online coaching and tuition. And Grisha herself offers an online course on BAT: https://grishastewart.com/bat101/?s2-ssl=yes
