Does anyone have experience with a lab with a swollen toe that doesn’t cause a limp? My 4 year old black lab Onyx has a mystery swollen toe. He doesn’t limp, chew, or lick the toe and is fully active including field work and advanced obedience training that includes high and broad jumps. The x-rays show no breaks or bone changes but there is obvious fluid in the toe. My vet suspected an infection from a foreign object that doesn’t show on x-ray so prescribed a course of anti-inflammatories and antibiotics but the swelling didn’t change. We just saw a surgeon with a specialty in soft tissue injuries that has suggested removing the fluid for testing, but he admitted this is somewhat baffling since the toe doesn’t bother Onyx at all. This is my first lab, so was wondering if this is something that happens in the breed. Would also like to hear if anyone has any experience dealing with a swollen toe.
