My yellow lab is extremely afraid of shiny floors. He is 9 yrs old. He will not walk on shiny floors and freaks out big time. He seems to have anxiety overload then. He has had limp tail because of slipping on the floor. I have put rugs down. It is really difficult if I travel with him and I can't use rugs. I have tried those things you put on their toenail (like rubber bands) so that he does not slip as much. Any ideas?

    Hi @tootie

    welcome to the forum.

Shiny floors are very hard going on the dog's ligaments and joints. I don't blame him for being frightened, especially as he is slipping. Rugs at home is an excellent idea.

I would try dog shoes, ones with a rubber non-slip sole. You will need to desensitise him to wearing them on his paws. But one can teach old dogs new tricks.

When Ginger got old, we put down temporary carpet runners in the kitchen for her. She was not afraid of the floors, but she did have problems with them. Tilly was kind of short, and she seemed to get around fine on them even near the end. Cooper is only 4 and they don't bother her at all so far.
