Sorry i'm here again, asking more questions about our 2 lab pups - 5 months old!!!!

We have had issues with diarrhea and have changed food several times they are now on barking heads which seems a great option for lab pups with hip issues etc but they dont seem keen on it of late so I have been adding boiled chicken breasts in to encourage them to eat it and softening it with water, does anyone know if chicken long term is a health issues as I have read it should be limited as can cause gastroenteritis etc - im surprised i thought protein was good for dogs.

Im giving them probably a breast a day in total across their meals plus some in their kongs - is this too much or should it be temporary?

thanks again and sorry for all my posts recently, lab puppies are a minefield for health and we constantly seem to not know if we are doing the righ or wrong thing by them!!!

    :)

Ha ha ! Ours is the same ! Was thinking of adding a bit of a can at each meal , she's only 11 weeks but really not keen on dry , breeder had her on rice and mince

Cooked chicken should not cause your dog any harm. But if it is a significant part of the diet, then the diet is unbalanced. Dogs need meat and bone in the right proportions. Dried food provides nutrients in the right proportions. Adding large amounts of muscle meat on its own, will unbalance the diet.

I was just about to say the same as Pippa , if you wish to add to a complete food, just to make it more interesting, then just add a very tiny ammount so as not to affect the balance .

I put a tablespoon of canned food on the dried food, probably more for me than the dogs! I just feel it makes a wee bit of a change for them.
