This is just a "Im so tired thread" because there isn't much I can do about my current situation. We have Maggie, our Black lab who is just about 7 months old. I spent so much time with her for the last 5 months working, training, walking, socialising and she was really coming along so great! About 3 weeks ago we got a call from our son who is in Law School and he and his fiance' (also in law school) are on summer internships in a different city than where they go to school. They live in a house in law school but for this summer the only temp living they could get was an apartment. They rescued a 1 year old puppy almost two years ago and he had a really really hard road with separation anxiety. They worked really hard with him and he is a great guy. His name is Boone and he is a Black Mouth Cur.
back to the phone call. Boone was not doing well with apartment living. New location, couldn't see out windows and all the noises that go along with it had him very upset and barking a lot. The kids got a final notice from the apartment that if they got one more complaint, they would be evicted. Well of course they couldn't have that happen, so they called in desperation to see if Boone could come stay with us for the rest of the summer (about 10 weeks).
I am about three weeks in and it has been constant. I feel like a lot of my training with Maggie has gone out the window. They play and play and play and we have to separate them just to get them to rest. The first week I actually cried because I felt that Maggie was switching her bond to him and not us but that has gotten a bit better. I am trying to still spend training time with her by herself and trying to work with Boone a bit too. Anyway. I have 7 weeks to go. We call it "camp grandma" here :) Trying to stay positive. Kids plan to come every other weekend to help us out....it's a 4 hour drive! Sooooooo, if you read this far, thanks and send calming, positive vibes my way if you can :)

    Hi @jbg

Empathy from Down Under. Is Boone crate trained?

It sounds like you really have your hands full! Hopefully Maggie and Boone will settle a bit more, before the end of the 7 weeks left. It's wonderful that you were able to step in and help out.

That sounds really tough, but you are doing a very kind thing for your son and hopefully he really appreciates your efforts :(

Thank you Michael. The kids tried to crate train him for about 7 months when they first got him...to no avail. He is a mess whenever he gets enclosed. Poor guy was relinquished twice before they got him and sadly we think, "caged". Maggie is also not crate trained (first time I haven't done it with a dog) mainly because she was so easy and great as a puppy and we spend all of our time together. :p

Thank you :) I just hope it stops raining in IL. The days are much better when we can be outside!

Oh they do! They were really in a bind and we all knew it was temporary. They also miss their boy so much but know that we will love him like they do while he is with us

Thanks. It's funny how just getting a few "feel good" posts from people who understand what having a lab puppy is like helps sooo much! Have had a very productive day today, working with them both to adjust to MY life instead of me to theirs :) I think it's important for me to try and go about my normal day....even if its back to folding laundry on the kitchen table hahahaha. Hang in there with your 15 week old....things will continue to get better from where you are!!
