    Hi!

    Recall again!

After almost 2 years (Ema will be 2 in a few days :)) adorable Ema is a great companion, sociable and easy going. Obedience and agility in her CV, she still does not have a "perfect" recall. So I decided to give it a try with a trainer other than me (and probably without my presence). Do you think this is a wise approach for recall? Cheers!

I second Total Recall. I'm not saying my dog has perfect recall in all circumstances now but it's pretty impressive most of the time. I'm not convinced of the value of training if you're not there. I might be wrong but it seems to me that recall is just about the dog always thinking it's worth his while being with you, that you are more interesting than, say, other dogs or deer. I don't see how that can be achieved if you're not there.

Thanks, Lucy! Well, yes, I have done all the steps in Total Recall but probably the park we use to walk in is too distracting for Ema... :p I will probably do it all over again.

    Cheers, Ruth!

I also think it's way better to train our dog ourselves and am really proud of Ema, specially (and myself, a bit too :)). I guess I'll do Total Recall all over again.

I have an alternative suggestion. Ask the dog trainer to observe you working your dog on recall. The trainer should then give you a detailed evaluation of what you are presently doing, and need to do in order to improve your training of recall.
