I'm probably being overly worried but my beautiful 1 yr old boy is poorly again. He's a bugger for food or anything he can eat or chew. He has good walks off and on leash, he has lots of toys and loves scent training, he has a magnificent shiny coat admired by many people, he has breakfast and then a supper and the only 'human food' he eats is cheese, lamb hearts or chicken used specifically for training outside. He does have the occasion bone but we take it away when it gets worrying small. Certainly no rubbish goes into my dog...........well, we don't give it to him as he's very capable of finding crap to eat himself. He's funny, naughty, gentle and completely mad at times but I adore him. This is his 3rd episode of vomiting and off his food which only happens when he has this tummy upset. The first time at (7mths) I took him to see our vet who said he had seen dozens of cases in our area and that as we have not had a hard winter, bugs were rife. He gave him an antiemetic, starved for 36 hrs then chicken for a further 48 hrs. He recovered only to get it again 4 weeks later. He's been fine since as we are extra vigilant when he is out and putting things away/out of reach in the home and garden. But here we are again with a poorly boy. He is drinking but only a little in spite of encouragement and refreshing his water 10 times a day which worries me more. I've been all over the forum looking for some advice and I would really value some from my fellow dog owners at this time. I know I can't stop him from being a greedy pig, he's a lab. But he's such a darling and I hate seeing him like this. Those big, brown, sad eyes are breaking my heart and he just wants to sit with me stroking him. Strangely enough, I was at the vets with him this morning to get weighed for his wormer (34.5kg) and he was fine on his walk, ran all over the field on the way there but stayed close on the way back. The vomiting started this afternoon. Thank you in advance from me and Bear. x
Oh dear, I am sorry to hear that your poor boy is unwell. Did the vomiting start after you wormed him? How is he today?
Hi Pippa. No. It's not due until the end of the month. I've held off the vet as he would only tell me to do what I'm doing. He's drunk a little but not much. The vomiting has stopped this afternoon. I washed all his bedding and soft toys and mopped right through the house. He seems a little brighter this afternoon but he looks so sad. I've got some chicken to boil up for him for his breakfast but if he refuses I will take him straight to our vet. It's a horrible bug and I must try to be more alert when he's out. He must have eaten or licked something. I feel so bad for him. xx
Hi so sorry to hear your poor boy is unwell,it's so horrible isn't it when their poorly. Are his poo's ok? We had a lab who was always vomiting and very loose stools on and off for months and she had a bug called compylabacter. Maybe worth a mention to your vet. Hope he is better soon. Good luck
My dog gets sick if he eats chicken. He has an intolerance to it I feed skinless and boneless white fish instead. Maybe it's the chicken
Thanks Saffy/Isla. It's so upsetting, his face looks so sad. It's definitely something he's picked up. He's normally fine but is the canine equivalent of a waste disposal unit. He's picked up today........finally and managed to keep his chicken down although has really bad, smelly flatulence..........I'm talking REALLY bad!! I will mention to the vet when I take him for his annual check up. xx
Hiya Swampdonkey. He normally has kibble. I only give him boiled chicken when he has a bad tummy and wait a good 24 hrs. I honestly don't think this dog is intolerant to anything.........except when he eats something he shouldn't like horse poo or cat poo or some revolting piece of whatever hahahaha He's on the mend though and I don't think anyone has the answer as to how I can deal with it. I just felt so helpless and needed to vent......It's down to me to be more watchful when he is out. I feel so guilty. xx
