    Hi,
my dog has blackish ear wax, her ear is really red and looks irritated. Does that sound like ear mites and what home remedies can I use to help her heal?

    Hi @Ladea Weaver

    Welcome to the forum.

I would take the dog to a vet. The vet needs to establish the source of the problem.

If you're in the UK, check out Thornit - it's fixed loads of ear issues I've had over the years and is a well-known solution amongst doggie folks. My Weim had caked black wax in her ear as a pup and Thornit fixed that in a few days after veterinary products failed. If Thornit doesn't work then for sure, the vet.

I would go to the vet ASAP. It is probably not ear mites. Our yellow lab had terrible ear issues and would get frequent infections and yes the gunk in the ear was blackish...sometimes it was even a very dark blood. ears were very red. It was just the dog. Nothing we were doing wrong. He got them in the spring and fall from allergies and he would get them after he was wet. We took great care to never let his ears get wet as he was older and we also gave him allergy med all year round. Hopefully it's just a one time infection for you!!
