I just want to make sure we're not overly exerting our lab while running him. I will play catch with him daily where I get him running at full speed for about 10-12 minutes straight. Obviously, he'll slow down after 5-6 minutes but he'll still keep running hard. He's 16-months old and very fit. Afterwards I'll get him some water and we'll do a walk to settle down. His gate looks good and if I see any sort of hiccup while running we'll take a day or two off from running. I just want to make sure these short spurts of strenuous exercise isn't going to cause adverse effects with his hips or other body parts later in life.
It's not really the fast running I'd be concerned about, but if you are throwing things for him to fetch, then there will be an awful lot of jarring on his young joints.
I agree, this isn't great exercise. Have a read: https://paws4udogs.wordpress.com/2012/01/06/too-much-of-a-good-thing/ https://bharcsblog.wordpress.com/20...w3rxQIA7BySjryW1DUzm18AQdmMFvwZILXG58lPS67R-s http://totofit.com/tbt-think-before-throwing/
