Kyko is 13 months old and since about 8 months of age has had issues with not being able to empty his anal glands. Usually what happens is the dreaded fish smell when he's sleeping & we pop him off to the vets and have them squeezed, but usually there is very little in there (maybe due to the self release?). So a while ago we smelt them but wasn't a lot came out so we decided to wait & see if it happened again, before subjecting him to getting them squeezed (as he was becoming a bit nervous of seeing the vet). So on Tuesday morning we were awoken to him being sick in bed, then he was fine ate & drank properly & was his usual self. Tuesday night he took a dip a puddle of mud sticking his head under and so on. Also he had a large expulsion from the anal glands after getting showered. Yesterday through the day he was his usual self, full of energy & on the lookout for food constantly. However last night when we took him for a walk he has explosive diarrhoea but seemed to perk up straight after, came back had a drink of a water & his usual kong for bed. This morning we were woken to him being sick in his crate again, let him out and he had another bout of diarrhoea & hasn't drank since 9 o'clock last night, not interested in food & is very lethargic & doesn't even want to go for a walk. We have an appointment at the vets for this evening. But was wondering if we have left his anal glands too long & they have become infected, or if he has picked something up from the mud? Has anyone had any experience of infected glands? Just hate to think we have left him too long & he is now in pain
