sorry for so many posts....im trying to take Zeus to new places every day for socialisation but he constantly fights to get down. I’m so frightened I will drop him, is there a safer way to do it? Any help would be really really appreciated. My children go back to school next week and I was hoping to carry him in the school run but I don’t think I would be able to hold him. Please help!!

    Hi @Sunshine86

I suggest you try a large shoulder bag. Let him poke his head out the top and see what is going on. It is really important that he has a good time. Give him a treat or two if and when he calms down. If he gets frightened by anything then back off. Note it and think about approaching that stimulus another day but using distance so that he always remains calm.

Thank you. I just want to get this right for him but I feel like even walking him down the road I’m failing at!!! I took it as the reason he wanted to get down was because he was keen to explore but from what you are saying it seems it’s that he isn’t enjoying it!!!

    Hi @Sunshine86
No I'm not saying that. I would need to observe him to say whether he dislikes something. My guess is that he wants to get down and explore. But I thought you were worried that he was not fully vaccinated. So what I was saying is that you don't need to wait until he has had all his vaccinations before he can go out of your home. Take him out at 8 weeks but carry him in a bag. One week after second vaccination I would have my puppy on the ground. I had checked with my vet. Little to no distemper or parvo in my suburb. So the certain benefits of socialisation far outweighed the expected cost of illness.

I used a pet buggy for our Gwenni, very safe and I got her used to it in the garden first. She came out and saw many things with me using that and I could easily give her rewards as needed. You may be able to find one second hand if you don’t want to buy one for a few weeks?? Can’t seem to upload photo..but it was a Pet Gear buggy.
