    Hi,

Over the past few months we've been taking Lucius, our 4 year old Labrador, to the vet for a reoccurring limp in his back legs (mainly his left but we've seen it in his right every now and then). The vets recommended an xray and after we put the funds together we went ahead and gave him an x ray. The results were that his hip sockets were too shallow and the head of his femurs on both sides were too flat and not round at all, meaning the bones are rubbing together and causing him arthritis and pain.

He is currently on an anti-inflammatory and painkiller as well as some glucosamine and chrondotrin supplements and he seems to be doing well, and he's been put on a strict exercise of short walks and no offlead runs till he feels a bit better. The vet did say he may need surgery at some stage but at the moment he feels the hips arent bad enough yet although if the medication doesnt work we may have to consider it.

Have you tried Golden Paste? It’s a natural anti inflammatory based on turmeric that you mix with coconut oil and put in food. Recipe and quantities on line.

I use Jointsure for my boy as a preventative but it gets good reviews for dogs with arthritis.

As well as the glucosamine and chondroitin it also contains green lipped mussel.

Have you considered hydrotherapy? Again I do fun swims at a local pool with my boy as a preventative measure.

Thank you for your replies! He's on a course of anti inflamitories and glucosamine and chrondroitin (nutraquin) and he also is doing hydrotherapy (used to do fun swims but now will be the actual therapy to build muscles).
I was wondering what sort of exercise he needs? Something to build up the muscles in his back legs like pulling on a harness maybe? Or something else?
