I have the Dyson V6 Animal and love it. It doesn't pick up big stuff, but is great with dog hair and so quick to run around the house.
Thanks Snowbunny. I saw your recommendation for the V6 animal earlier in the thread, I checked it out but it seems to be quite a big model. I'm looking for something closer to the size of a kettle.
Ah, Ok. The unit itself is about the size of a kettle (a large kettle!) and then it has different heads you can use, but, yes, the "main" one is for doing floors with, so is a long shaft. I guess you're more after what we used to call a "dustbuster" ... or, as my Dad said, "Bustduster"
Having done some hours of research, it seems that there are a lot of models available, and some are better than others. But none of them seem robust enough to last for "years" (all have reports of failure between "a few months" and 18 months). So maybe there is something inherent in the design of these smaller hand-held "Dustbusters", that means they don't live long. I try to avoid products that don't last, so it looks like I need to find an alternative solution. In the main building, we run a central vacuum cleaner (long hose, which is inconvenient to get out just to vacuum the dog's bed); and a Roomba (which is excellent for what it does, but won't handle a dog's bed ). Maybe I just need a dustpan and brush... but other suggestions are welcome
Only three words - Shark Navigator Liftaway. These are the absolute BEST vacuums on the market. It the ONLY one that would pick up ALL the labrador hair. Dyson Animal was returned after 2 weeks later (awful, awful vacuum that would not pick up anything on carpet). Shark stands behind these and the 5 year warranty is real. After hose rip just beyond the 5 year mark they sent a new one, no questions asked.
oh gosh, we have been walking on white clouds since spring. Dyson is good only if it's "animal"..my older dc33 (which we had from before Maximus came into our lives) does not do the job on the carpet/ rug. But a cheap vacuum cleaner designed specially for pet does a terrific job..also I found furminator (weekly) and brushing (almost daily) helps a lot..
I bought a SEBO Airbelt D4 this Winter. It is head and shoulders better than any vacuum I have ever used. Large Casters so it rolls easy, tapered hose so it does not plug, but of special interest to dog owners, the power brush can be removed for cleaning in about 2 seconds with no tools. It goes back just as easy. They have 9' extension hose that you can put on the regular hose so you can do a full stair case from one end, and the smaller turbo brush head has plenty of power and does not stall, like others I have used. The turbo brush is great for stairs and upholstery. I still use our Hoover battery upright for quick fur pickup, but the SEBO is far better. It is better than Miele or Kenmore also.
I have been using iRobot Roomba 960 for my pet hair. Much more reliable and decent in size. I like this one too much and comfortably help me to clean my pet hair. More details below https://www.austinbarkitecture.com/best-roomba-for-pet-hair/
What is your budget for a vacuum cleaner? I have used different ones in the past. Dyson, Shark, iRobot, Roomba. All of them were good enough. Now it's up to you which one will you decide https://www.kitchenrestock.com/ Try this source. Might help you to get some cheap and reliable vacuum cleaner.
