Hi all, MY pup Snuffles was spayed a little less than a week ago at the shelter we got her from. Her incision is small and they used the internal stitches that dissolve in her. Shes approximately 20 weeks old and is doing pretty well. She appears to have no pain and is healing well despite her every attempt to open the incision by being a hyperactive psycho ;-). I've read that 10-14 days is when they can go back to normal play, does that include playing with other puppies and dogs? We are planning on going to a friends house in a couple weeks who have a 1-2 year old collie, but I wasn't sure if we need to keep her separated. Thank you, and thanks everyone who have helped me with other questions, this forum has been a life saver. Snuffles has been making so much progress on all fronts and the help and info I've gotten from the forum and the main site have been a large part of it.
Unless your vet says otherwise, your puppy should be fine to return to normal activity, including play with other dogs, two weeks after her op.
My girl is nine days post spay , and we are still being very vigilant with her . I did allow her off lead yesterday morning on our walk but only because there was no one else around plus she tends to stay close . Then during the afternoon , there were a lot of dogs around , so back on her lead she went . She has been pottering around in our garden , but I wont allow any rough house type play with our other dog, not for a few more days , best to err to caution really . I think a lot depends on the bitches nature , if they are playful , be ultra cautious !
In Another couple of weeks there shouldn't be a problem with her playing with other dogs. I would monitor though and make sure they both get short breaks as puppies don't always know when to stop. Glad the spay went well.
Ask the Vet, but 10 to 14 days she should be pretty much good to go. Cooper was 14 months when she was spayed, and had a large incision, but was ok to swim etc at about 10 days.
Thanks everyone, it sounds like I was unnecessarily worried. The vet tec we saw today to give her a vaccine said her incision was healing very quickly, so it sounds like were in great shape 8 days post spay. I'll still be cautious and not let her play with another dog until this weekend...but I'll still probably hover over her during that .
