We have a 5 month old female golden lab. She's lovely but at puppy class she is by far with most hyper puppy. She won't sit still for more than 30 seconds. She has no concentration during any of the tasks. At home she is calm but gets easily excited.

She has loads of toys and we constantly reinforce good behaviour with treats but it is completely exhausting and she seems to remain extremely hyper. She is fine on walks but once she sees another dog she goes manic. She has now started jumping up at us and she is toy possessive. Any advice on how to tire her out? Keep her more controlled? Any help gratefully received.

Hi! I also have a 5 month old puppy. He is a ball of energy as well. I know this is costly but we send him to doggie day care to play with other pups.... it has eliminated the majority of our problems! He's calm and tired at home now. Maybe if there is another puppy your dog can play with a couple times a week?

Sounds like your dog has to much stimulation and attention. Need to work on the dog learning to settle indoors. You can have to many toys. Crates work well to help learn to settle.

What do you do if she jumps up? You should redirect her energy with a treat for example into a sit and then offer further attention if she is calm.

Similar with other dogs. Interaction with Other dogs can be self rewording. Would limit interaction for a while and focus on older dogs which have less patience for puppies. Just make sure the other dog is well socialised

    Good luck

Does she know fetch? It is a great game, and very easy to work obedience commands into. A single big, long game of fetch, or multiple shorter games of fetch....they burn loads of energy, and are extremely fun.

Toby was exactly the same. I came away exhausted as he would not sit quietly waiting his turn. The best exercise during this was saying “watch” and getting him to look at your face. Hold it for as long as possible and then reward(i’m Sure there will be a video on line showing you how to do it properly)
Once you have got the basic training look at scent training.
They need to be mentally stimulated more than physically. I know we think we need to tire them out to get any peace and quiet but actually constantly chasing a ball can make them hyper(there are definitely articles about that somewhere on this site)
Scent training is great fun and can be practised in the house or garden.

    Look at enrichment training.
Willow was tired out after her adult enritchment /basic training classes.
We did lots of treat based exercises at home.
There are lots of training ideas on this website to try out.
