    Hi.

We are going to be getting a puppy at the end of the year and I am determined to do everything I can to help the puppy settle in and train it properly. I have found some local obedience classes that take dogs from 5 months but I would like to find a good puppy training book that I can start with.

    Does anyone have any reccomendations?

    Thank you!

Not puppy specific (my dog was 6 months old when I got him) but I liked 'How to train like a pro' by Jean Donaldson and Pippa Mattinson' s Labrador book and Total Recall.

5 months seems old to start classes. You've missed out on a critical stage in their social development. They start at 12 weeks here.

My favourite is 'Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy' by Steve Mann of the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers). It covers all the basic puppy stuff and is easy to read and refer to (and is force-free of course.)

Pippa Mattison's The Happy Puppy and Gwen Bailey's The Perfect Puppy were a great help when I got Dylan 2 months ago

I just finished two cycles of max hangs and I'm re-testing on Monday. I'll be sure to report back.
