My Lab was experiencing severe vomiting and diarrhea. She's almost 9 years old. Night time vomiting was happening for about a month, thought it was bilious vomiting syndrome, but when the vomiting started bad during the day and the diarrhea, we knew it wasn't just bilious vomiting syndrome we were dealing with. She was also starting to get dehydrated. They gave her IV fluids at the Vet and then gave us Cerenia to stop the vomiting and Metronidazole to stop the diarrhea. They both are working. She's also on a bland diet of chicken and rice for a few days. But now she's not having any bowel movements, although it's only been two days, I'm not sure how worried I should be. Has anyone else us had Metronidazole for diarrhea? How long was it before your dog started having bowel movements again?

She had a blood work up, nothing showing up on that. She's had xrays looking for an obstruction or blockage and the barium drink to look for blockage, that all turned out okay too. So, we are still working with the Vet to get answers. But for the time being, I'm just not sure how concerned I should be about her not having a bowel movement for a couple days. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How awful for you both. I had a very poorly puppy who didn't have a bowel movement for 11 days, but in that time he was eating very little. I wouldn't be too concerned about 2 days, but maybe if she hasn't been tomorrow, you might want to give the vet a call and ask their advice.

She had a bowel movement late last night. Fully formed stools, a little soft still, but no diarrhea. So I feel much better about it now. Just hoping she stays on the road to recovery. I've called in my additional questions to the Vet about the prescriptions, so hoping they get back to me today.
