Hi all.... Buddy is now just short of 18 months old and I'm not quite sure what's going on these past couple of days...
He's your classic working lab, bouncy, boisterous, loves to play, steals socks, ticks all the boxes.

We have had him in his own room in a crate since 8 weeks and he loves it, runs in at night and has slept through since day one. Anyway a few mornings ago he woke up whining at 5 am (he normally gets up around 7) and I got him up in case he needed the toilet and he ran out full of energy, all the usual stuff so I didn't think too much of it. But the next night he whined all night. I got him out but didn't need a wee or anything, but was then reluctant to go back in his crate, and has been ever since.

He's sleeping through again but is still unsure of going to bed when he would usually run straight in. Together with this he seems a little different, curling up in the corner of the kitchen and sleeping when he'd normally be all over the house pinching things.

I think I will get him to the vet but he is eating, drinking, toileting, still playing when we play with him, still has zoomies when he's excited, still excited on walks etc etc, just much quieter at certain times....

Does anyone else have experience with this? Is he going through a fear period? Did he have a bad dream that has caused some anxiety? (he has always been a very confident dog) is he calming down a little? He was neutered a few months ago as he had costochordism (I think that's the right term)....

We did change his room around, we put his crate in the corner and cleared all the washing out to turn it back into a usable lounge, but he was fine with it for a couple of weeks after we did it.

I realise it's a guessing game but I really don't think there is anything physically wrong with him. There is some reason he is reluctant to go back in his crate. I'm just trying to give as much info as I can, we are struggling to pin point anything. Thanks in advance.

Just thought I would add seeing as fireworks have been around this time of year, he is absolutely fine with them, he just sleeps through it as I've had him at work with me since we've had him and there's nail guns etc going on so that doesn't bother him.....
