Hello everyone, has anyone experienced something like this: Beau started dry heaving and making himself a little sick a few times last night. This morning, he had been sick again at night, and in it I discovered a feather. We assume it had been stuck in his throat and that was what made him want to gag. However, he has continued to make himself sick this morning, and his throat is clearly still irritated, unless there is another feather lurking in there... He doesn't have a bad tummy, because there really isn't much sick at all (probably just bile). Wasn't sure if it would work itself out or I should take him to the vet. He's happy enough in himself. I wish I could get him to drink lots more water, but he of course doesn't understand that would help if he isn't thirsty. Thanks for any advice!

Hi Lisa, sorry to hear about Beau, viruses like Kennel Cough can sometimes make dogs cough until they retch. But so can something stuck in the throat. I would definitely give the vet a ring and have a chat. They'll be able to tell you whether or not you need to take him in for a check up, or whether it's okay to watch and wait for a few hours. Hope he improves soon.

I agree with @pippa@labforumHQ viruses cause similar symptoms. Meg I think had a mild kennel cough type illness like that. She was not really unwell but her cough sounded like she was being sick. It passed quickly. Maybe a chat to your vet will reassure you. Hope he is better soon.
