Hi all a bit of advice if possible please, my black lab gets what looks like dandruff after he has been showered, my better half washes him and l keep telling him to make sure he rinses him well, which he says he does so l am wondering if you can advise on the best shampoo to use, l buy good ones but maybe they aren't the best for my black lab.
Appreciate your advice and thanks for readingo_O

Most people don't wash their labs as the shampoo strips oil from their coats. Stop your partner Washing your lab and invest in some good quality salmon oil to put in their food. If you need to get mud off just a quick sluice with plain water. The more you shampoo the worse the dry flakes will get.

I wouldn't use shampoo at all. If left alone a Lab's coat has a natural balance of oils that keeps it healthy and looking good. If you feel you must wash off mud then just do so with plain water. (My dog has never been bathed and I mostly just rub her clean with a synthetic chamois cloth, although occasionally I get a bucket of plain water out if she's very muddy.)

I agree with Joy. My previous lab didn’t get a bath/shower in 12 years and never smelt.
As long as their bedding and collars are washed regularly there should be no need.

Ours only got baths very rarely, one or two a year at the most. Only if they got into something really stinky. Swimming in salt water makes them feel like they have had a shampoo.

Meg is nearly 6 and has never had a bath, lots of dunks in the river is all she needs :)

If Hero gets muddy or rolls in something really unpleasant, I always carry bottles of plain water, a towel and grooming mitt in the car. It works well enough and with a mix of rainwater, river water and sea water when he dives in, his coat stays lovely and soft and shiny. We shampooed him once after rolling in fox poo and he scratched and scratched like mad after so haven't used it since.
