Hi There, Im new to the forum (its really good btw) my concern is i have a 7mth old black lab, whom i adore.. he unfortunately got hit by a car and fractured his hip. He has gone completely off his kibble. Im feeding him from my hand and he eats a bit but not much. I know hes not himself after the accident, but im worried hes not eating properly ( he has one or 2 treats during the day) any suggestions on what i could do? Hes not on any meds now. Thank you M
Hello, good to hear your dog is on the mend from quite a serious accident. I guess anything could be going on, he still could be in some discomfort. Have you spoken to your vet ?
Hello There, Thank you for your response. Yes seen a vet and then i got a second opinion. He has 2 fractures in hip so i have him on maintenance watchhes eating bits just not a lot. Mostly when i feed him by hand. Im trying him on a raw food to see how he goes
could try putting hot water into his kibble, makes it smell nice and once its cooled down enough to eat he might be more enticed by the smell to eat it. The same thing happened to my dog when he was in the vets overnight from a bad stomach inflammation which ended up with him on a drip because he was so dehydrated. The vet recommended this after we rang worried that he wasn't eating.
Hi there, and welcome to the forum. How long is it since your dog's accident? Is he on crate rest at the moment?
Thank you for yr reply. I actually tried this , but it didnt work. However he does eat small amounts the next morning? I got advice off Labrador owner who breeds them and he suggested it because of my other choc Labrador. As he is much older (12) the young black lab "Harry" wont eat from his own. He just watches "Max" eat his.Maybe just consequence that the accident has happened. I feed him from my hand and give him bones which he takes. Trying this for now Thank one again for your reply M
Thank you, Love the site, very informative. I do have him resting , donr the crate for 3 days, unfortunately he became very distressed, so i have him restricted to a pen and with maintenance hes doing better. I could not afford the surgery the first vet advised. However the second opinion was better with rest and maintenance (which is tough) and supplements he is improving after 3 weeks. Thank you M
