Both my Labs have gone through a stage of very early morning bile vomiting. The older dog (now 5.5 years) grew out of it, and feeding a large meal in the late evening seems to have fixed the problem for the younger dog (10 months). However, a friend read an article in The Whole Dog Journal that referred to copper toxicity, and Labs were among the breeds listed as susceptible to it. Vomiting was one of the symptoms.

I switched to feeding Victor dog foods because they have LOTS of info on their website about ingredients, and appear to have a high level of protein and low carbs. They are also the only food I've found that lists the copper content.

Has anyone else encountered the early morning vomiting problem? Your solution? Any knowledge about the copper issue?

Our limited experience fit what is described as "Hunger Pukes" caused by a pups empty stomach being irritated by gastric juices. I happened to Cooper a couple of times when she was young. Feeding Later and then earlier seemed to solve it for us, but she grew out of any tendency by the time she was 1 yr.

Don't know anything about Copper Toxicity relative to dogs.

Thanks. I'm assuming my youngster will also grow out of it.

I read more about the copper toxicity issue and am no longer concerned about it with my dogs. The list of symptoms is quite extensive and serious, and neither of my dogs shows any of them.
