I’m curious which of you guys let’s your pup/dog on the couch. I firmly didn’t want Sam on the couch, the wife had a different opinion. Guess where Sam is right now?

Have any of you people had issues with training disagreements and how did you resolve them?

Cooper has dog beds in several rooms as well as two couches at home and two at our cabin. She also normally sleeps on our bed. We are going to buy a King Size. A cover is a good idea to save wear and tear on a nice couch.

Ring on the couch didn’t have any adverse training effects? Sam is only 15 weeks and trying to do everything “right”.

Sounds like the problem here is the difference of opinion rather than if it is right or wrong for the dog. He looks a bit guilty in this photo so probably waiting to be told to get off.
Our first dog was not allowed on the sofa or upstairs. 2nd not on sofa but upstairs not on the beds. Toby is allowed anywhere!I love having him near me and if that means snuggling up to me on the sofa then great. We use plenty of washable throws and he sleeps in the kitchen in his bed. He also stays in the kitchen after his morning walk when he is usually damp after being towelled down. He seems to self regulate going on the sofa and only goes on the one with the throw when someone is sat on it and not on his own.
You pick your battles and make your choices.

I love a cuddle with my dog on the sofa. I have a few sets of covers that wash well. She didn’t get on the sofa though until 6 months as I didn’t want her jumping up and down and hurting her joints.

We chose not to let Monte on the furniture mainly because I don’t want him to assume he can in other peoples houses. So it’s one rule everywhere and that’s final. We use the command OFF if he attempts to get on. He’s only ever got his front paws up. You do need to come to an agreement with your wife otherwise Sam will get confused.

I'm happy to have my dog on the couch (as is my husband) and no it doesn't cause any problems with general behaviour - have a look at the video I posted of us doing off-lead heelwork in a rally competition.
It's up to you and your wife to come to an agreement about what you want.

My husband is very well trained and does as he's told all the pets go on the sofa we have a big sofa.
