We were blessed to have the most wonderful Goldador (EMILY) for 13 years with no major health issues until the several months of her life when she was diagnosed with heart cancer. She did have ear infections from time to time, but nothing major. She raised our kids and she was at the core of our family. She was loving, so tolerant with kids, protective and charming. We have been missing her for a year 1/2 and are now thinking of getting another one. Can’t find breeder feel comfortable with yet - two won’t let us see the kennels. Does anyone know of reputable breeder of Goldadors? Am in Wash DC area but willing to travel. Thanks!
Hi Iona, Welcome to the forum! Rather than revive a very old thread, I've created a new one for your post. Emily sounds like she was the most wonderful dog. We agree that not being allowed to see where a puppy is raised is a massive red flag, and invariably a sign that the breeder is a puppy farm. Good luck with the search, and do let us know when you find the perfect pup!
Emily sounds amazing. Would you consider a 1-2 yo? Some (many?) service organizations have Goldadors and offer public adoption. This place is in Florida: https://www.guidedogs.org/public-adoption/ Promo on Goldador service dog for veteran with PTSD: https://www.guidedogs.org/tag/service-dog/page/2/ The Seeing Eye Foundation is in New Jersey but I'm not sure if they breed Goldadors: https://www.seeingeye.org/puppies-dogs/adopt-a-dog/ My friend who has lab guide dog from the Seeing Eye told me that the most common reason for dogs being available for adoption is frequent/chronic yeast in the ears I'm sure you can find other organizations. The price is very high ($5K) but perhaps tax deductible?
Not sure I agree. One of the local highly respected Lab breeders won't let people in to see the pups because he says he is worried about bringing infections in since the pups aren't vaccinated yet. We did not buy pups from him, but I'm quite sure he is not a puppy mill.
