Hi, I am new to forum as well as owning a pup. I am from India. I am here to seek few suggestions before I go in for a pup and later to look after the pup As I understand from various forums, any dog breed can be trained if properly raised from puppy food. Though I am fond of labs, I need to know following because these are my basic requirements to own a pup other than being a companion and a friend 1. I do understand labs are friendly with strangers as well, so that being the case, will my lab protect me if I am attacked or threatened on a walk ! 2. Knowing stranger friendly attitude of lab, will it prevent my home from burglary
Hello, within the breed you will have personality differences but if you 2 objectives are very important to you perhaps a lab is not the best dog to meet your needs. I doubt my lab would protect me when out. She would shy away from any threat verbal or physical. She barks if anyone comes to the house, but if I was not in and the intruder saw her, I doubt that would stop them. I think Meg is a pretty typical lab. Good luck with your search.
Some of my labs would definitely protect me if I was attacked. Some of the probably wouldn't. One of them would either not notice, laugh, or join in . Regarding breaking in, most of them would bark, but none of them would prevent a burglary.
