Hello! We just got this great little guy 5 days ago. He’s 14 weeks old. He absolutely refused to go potty outside, either pee or poop. We can be outside for hours and he will not go until we come in. We take him out as soon as he wakes up, after he eats, and frequently in between but nothing seems to work. We have tried him in a leash, loose, in a fence, and free. He just won’t go, and does not seem to be learning. Please help!!! Thank you
At 14 weeks I guess he has learnt some habits he shouldn’t! I don’t know the answer from a training point of view but I think I would go out for a walk ,take food and water(for him and you!) and just stay out until he goes. OTT praise when he does. Make sure everything in the house has been thoroughly disinfected so there is no trace of a smell(to his sensitive nose) Maybe bring another dog into the garden to get a few scents going out there. We had to train our pup to use puppy pads until she was able to go outside as we didnt have a garden. Is he using puppy pads in the house? If so try taking some of these into the garden, but move it closer slowly. Do you have a que you use in the house when he toilets? If not try every time he goes say the que you want to use - we use pee pee - and now when outside if I say pee pee she knows to do a pee before we head home. When he does go on the mats or moves closer to the outside start praising so he starts to learn what you expect of him. The first time he toilets outside make sure you have a high reward treat and like JD said OTT praise.
