    Hi all,

I recently got a lab pup named Frankie, he’s 7 months and a bit he’s hyper and friendly as you can all imagine. One thing that’s driving me insane is that he eats the other dogs poo out the back garden? Is this normal? Anyway if stopping him? Thanks in advance

    Hi James

Yes, unfortunately it's quite a normal instinct in many animals. Their digestive systems aren't as efficient as ours so the natural instinct it to 'eat it again'.

Couple that with the fact that labs are renowned for guffing whatever horrible thing they find and it's a hard habit to break.

Let him know that you're displeased if you catch him in the act but be careful that he doesn't confuse that as being told off for cacking there in the first place. As soon as the dog's have done their business go and pick it up and remove the temptation.

And keep a stock of Dentisticks. Half a Dentistick will remove that orrible ponk from their breath ;)

    You might find this helpful.
My last two dogs have been poo eaters. With the first it became an obsession. Him trying to find it and me trying always to stop him. It ruined many a walk.
With Toby I have decided to be more relaxed and he does it a lot less. Often if we walk somewhere new it is the last thing on his mind. Don’t listen to anyone saying he must be deficient in his diet. We are on our third change of diet for other reasons and it makes no difference.
My advice would be to remove the temptation.
