Hello... I ended up with a tiny puppy who had no where else to go. I suspect he's a Labrador mix based on my previous knowledge of them (had them all my life). How do you post a photo here so others can see and tell me what they think?
Not against any rule that I am aware of, except that ignorance can be bliss. If you wish to go ahead, then go to main page. Then look for the technical folder towards the bottom of that page. Lots of information there on how to post.
Thanks a ton. So you have to use a photo hosting site. Gotcha. I wonder if a video would work better. Here's one taken today. He is about 7 weeks. Quite small. Maybe 4-5 lbs or so. Not sure. He already has potty training down both inside his crate and outside. He seems very smart, as well. He's very confident too. Fears nothing even though he's little.
Well done on the upload @mjfromga I think there is a bit of Lab in there, but there is another breed too. Ears don't look correct, tail is odd in position, and I would be expecting to see something on the chubby side. Enjoy the dog she is. I would really harness that tugging dispositionwith a tug toy. You can use it as a reinforcer.
Background info needed here, I suppose He is suspected to be stunted. Also I think he was either the runt or right above the runt. There were 6 girls and 1 boy. He was given to me by some random people who were just going to have the litter put down at the shelter. Loaded with worms and fleas. I took him to the vet today and they sent off stool samples. He's been wormed twice and is still pooping out a lot of worms. Very severe worm infestation and possibly giardia or coccoidia. That's also why he is sorta thin. He will be 8 weeks soon and he's only 4 lbs. I have had him for 2 weeks now and he hasn't grown. He may have even lost a little weight. He eats a ton, is very active and playful, and seems normal aside from diarrhea and being thin. You can see a good profile of his head shape here in this video. I do have a tug toy for him... But it is too big so he still goes after my pants. I adore him already and will of course love him no matter what... I was just curious of what people think. Also I was interested in his possible final size. BTW I listed him as "mixed breed" at the vet today and after examination, they labeled him as a Labrador mix, as well. Several people have suggested he's got Cocker Spaniel, I think so too. His ears don't look totally LABBY to me.
First time on leash today. Not so great but expected for the first time. I want him to be comfortable on a leash so when I begin to socialize him, he will be used to it. I do not use restraints at home normally. Not with him or my older dog. His diarrhea has been improving with Metro and Forti Flora, but his fecal does test positive for coccidia... Which I go to pick up meds for tomorrow. He's also beginning to gain some weight finally. Doesn't look so skinny. Fleas and worms eradicated, just gotta handle that coccidia. He gets his third vaccine July 21. He's not been out anywhere yet except the vet and I carried him, he wasn't allowed to walk in there. I think she said he needs one more in August before he's totally safe. I also ordered an Embark DNA panel for him... Super curious about his breed.
Updated video of him... I think you are right. I believe there is Cocker Spaniel in him too. He truly does not have the disposition of Labradors either. I believe he has a lot of some medium sized high energy breed in him. Still awaiting his Embark, but I don't think he has as much Labrador as I originally thought. He is also stocky with a bully type front leg stance. He is fairly short of leg. Getting wider more than taller.
embk.me/malone3 His Embark results came back in today. He's quite the mutt. He does have Labrador Retriever, but there's more Pit Bull than Labrador. There's some spaniel, too. The results make total sense.
My girl Meg is Lab x Dalmation on one side and collie on the other. She does not have one iota of Lab disposition.
I'm quite familiar with Labs, and this guy is NO lab. He's way more boisterous and bitey. https://imgur.com/a/VG6w4xp
Here are new pics of him. He doesn't really look like a Labrador anymore either. He sort of did at first, but not much now. His ears sit very oddly now and are hairy. He isn't large enough either for a labrador. He is about 12 weeks and maybe 13 lbs or so. His coat is too short also. He also is very strong for his size and has more muscle than I am used to seeing in Labrador puppies. Wrong head shape too. Barely any fat at all. He eats a ton, as well. It's crazy. He's a total mutt puppy.
Lab pups can be extremely boisterous and bitey - read the thousands of desperate posts on here if you don't believe me. Your pup looks gorgeous BTW.
Thanks a lot. He's a rescue and I am happy to be able to give him a home. My last Labrador mixed puppy chewed things like crazy but none of them have been like this puppy. He does not run out of energy. He simply does not. He's also got this weird drive to him. Bite, hold, and shake... Just like in his first video. I'm not used to that with Labby guys. As it turned out... everyone here was right to some degree. He DOES have Labrador, but he has a bunch of other stuff too. I'm slightly surprised to see more pit bull than anything else, but it fits his demeanor. I actually can't stand pit bulls and would never ever own one, so I hope his temperament evens out a little as he gets older.
