Hi I have a 9 week old golden lab. I got him at 8 weeks old. He was one of 6. The breeder use to feed him 2 twice a day with dog biscuits and gravy. I took him the vet when I got him because he had dirarrea and he looked thin to me. The vet gave me a worming tablet and told me to feed him 4 times a day with chicken and rice. I have been doing that but he still us having sloppy poos. Sometimes they are like tar and sometimes they are brown. I weighed him today and he is 8.8lb. I am still worried that he isn't putting weight on very quick. I have googled what weight a 9 week old lab should be and he is no were near what it says. It,says a lab at 9 weeks should weight around 18_21 lb. Any help would be fab thank you

Hi Gill, your puppy does sound quite underweight. And it sounds as though the puppy had a very poor diet before you collected him, so hopefully he will improve in your care.

What part of the world do you live in? Do you have access to commercially produced puppy kibble? Does your puppy still have diarrhea and is that why your vet is recommending rice and chicken? Has your puppy been tested (or treated) for Giardia?

Here's a guide to feeding a Labrador puppy - do have a look and ask if you have any questions
