Hi all. Hope everyone's keeping well in these trying times.

Before the current situation we were hoping to get a labrador, and although timings may have to change now, at least I can use this time to research!

We're a family of 4, 2 kids aged 10 and 5, plus one cat. We've had many people say to get a working lab rather than a show? But I don't really know the difference! And he or she will be our first dog.

I work from home, have a house and garden plus acres of woodland at the end of the road. We're looking for a family pet who we can be active with but who can also chill with us on the sofa.

Then there's the KC registered question and whether that's important?

    And boy or girl?

Questions, questions! Just want to make sure we chose the right dog for our family.

    Thanks in advance. Stay safe.

Hi there and welcome to the forum!

I'm sure some of our members will be along shortly to share some of their real life experiences with different types of Labs :)

But in the meantime, here are some relevant articles from our main site, to add to your research:

This one is about the differences between working (aka. American or field) Labs, and show (aka. English or bench) Labs: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/english-vs-american-labrador/

And this one is specifically about choosing which is right for you: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/types-of-labrador/

This article has lots of interesting food for thought from Pippa about the value of KC registration: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/purebred-vs-mutt/

And finally this one is about the difference between girls and boys:
    https://www.thelabradorsite.com/male-or-female-dog/

Good luck! Do come back and let us know what you decide, and introduce us to your dog when the time comes!
