Hi all, still 7 weeks off our black lab pup, Corley, joining us but reading both of Pippa’s books to get prepared before the whirlwind hits! Just out of curiosity, what ‘soft food’ do you put inside a puppy kong to then freeze? Thanks!

So exciting when counting down till puppy day ... it will fly by in no time!

Some people use kongs to feed meals with e.g soak their kibble until soft and then put into kong and freeze. Our pup loved banana and puppy peanut butter as a little treat.

I really like this! How long do you soak the kibble?

Use warm water and leave it to cool then will be ready to put into the kong. Depending on the kibble if we mixed ours while it was cooling then it formed like a nice thick gravy, Luna loved it! It will take about 10-15 mins

I just finished 5 kongs and a lickymat - I did a little over 3/4 cup (Sully gets 2 cups (3/4) a day. I put boiling water with kibble and soaked it. Then I added a little peanut butter (all in the food processor). It came out so nicely! All in the freezer for tomorrow.

    Thank you!!!

Tomorrow will be a calm, no training, low key day for him.

I mash some banana in the bottom and top with either peanut butter, salmon cream cheese, plain greek yogurt.

Awesome. He ate his 3/4 cup of mashed kibble today - although he seems to be so frustrated doing them. Not licking it out fast enough. I am not sure. I will video it one time

He will get better at getting the food out. He is still learning how to hold, lick, chew and bite so its a big jump for him to master.

Toby loves his Kongs. Soaked kibble is probably the healthiest option. He often gets a smear of peanut butter around the inside or the end of a banana popped in. That takes a while as he has to lick it smaller before he can get it out.
He hates it when I freeze them as he knows it is going to be harder work. If looks could kill!
A word of caution. When he was neutered at 13 months the vet noticed a yeast infection in his lip fold when he was knocked out. She said he might be over salivating when using a kong and to wipe his mouth when he is finished. I also notice when out on a walk if he does a lot of sniffing he drools a bit(not excessively)
