Hello, I’m new to the Forum and I wanted to see if anybody could help me. We are in the process of getting a new chocolate lab. She’s currently 4 weeks old and they sent a photo of her and we noticed a light patch on her side. We’ve had plenty of other labs in the past and currently have two but we’ve never seen a patch on the side like this. I had the breeder check the skin and there’s no rash or dry patch. Just seems odd to me. Will that patch go away? Kinda tough to pay all that money for a lab without a consistent coat.

I would maybe ask your vet? If no one knows maybe atleast have a clear communication with the breeder discussing your expectations as far as the amount you paid along with what you were thought you should get. I would definitely be upset. I paid quite a price for my own. I hear your frustration. Keep the lines of communication open and maybe you guys can come to an appeasing resolution?

it sounds like the lab might be Mismarked?
Mine has a white patch on his chest which is more common in fox red labs.
If there is a chance it might be a permanent marking and not what you want you should be able to walk away from the deal. Hopefully the breeder will be understanding. As you say they aren’t cheap dogs. We chose Toby partly for his white flash but that was personal preference.

Thanks for the response. It’s a tough decision. We would still like to get her just not sure about that spot. I tried to post a picture but can’t figure out how to get one on here

I understand. If you want to email me you can. Yes I would be upset too. Like for example I have an english lab pup and I want stocky and big. I am still worried that he maybe only in 70 lbs but I am hoping for 90s. Part of the reason is he is training to be a working dog. I need the weight. The breeder assured me that weight will come as he gets older and fills out. When we have our minds set on how it should look or want it to be - it is very disappointing having to except that condition. I myself don't like settling. I purchased something, invested in something - I should get exactly what I want.

You aren't alone. Your feelings are validated and heard. I would definitely talk to the breeder. If you were anything like my numbers, I paid a very costly price for my english but then again Sully was backed up with health, clearances, CKC, beautiful lines, temperament, etc. She also has working lines for service work and therapy. The cost is priceless when my dog will be partnering with me to migiate disabilities.

If you go to the bottom of the home page there is a help section on posting photos. It isn’t a case of just uploading unless you pay the £10 to become a supporter then you get no adverts and posting photos is easy.

Once you have her home you will fall in love with her for her personality not just looks. If you think it will be an issue walk away. At 18months I didn’t expect to have a one eared lab but I couldn’t love him more!

Hi, you can post photos for free by uploading them to one of the many free photo hosting websites. Photobucket, Google photos, Flickr etc. If you want to upload them and have us store them on the forum, you'll need to be a forum supporter.

    Both ways work fine :)
