Hi all! Apologies if this isn't the right section to post under.

My partner and I are looking to get a lab puppy but want to make sure we choose a lab suited to us and vice versa.

I know there are physical differences with regards to appearance and I've read that there are differences in energy/exercise requirements. Is this the case? If so, could you provide details/explanation?

    Thanks!

Hi Steven and welcome to the forum

Here is an article on the main site that set out the differences between the two types of Labrador.

Feel free to shout if that doesn't answer your question or if you have any other questions :)

    Hi Steven,

There are a few differences, as you'll see in the article Pippa has linked above.

In general terms show (often referred to as English) Labs will be stockier, with broader heads and more broad chests. Working (often called American) Labs will be slimmer framed.

Like with any breed temperaments vary from dog to dog, but as a general rule American Labs are more energetic and have a stronger retrieving tendency. English Labs tend to be less driven but more playful.

Let us know which you decide to go for!
