Has anyone got any tips on starting fetch and retrieve with a 10 week puppy? He doesn’t seem that interested in balls but likes the puppy Kong. He loses interest very quickly but I presume that’s because he is so young. Thanks.

Hi there, the trick is not to take the toy away, and to stop while he is having fun. I've just published a short article on this topic, you might find it helpful :)

I picked a corner and just threw a little ball and see if she would fetch and bring it. Later we moved to a small hallway. For some time she struggled and I got concerned. Certainly not warranted. They suddenly just get it and nature takes over. At 15 months she marks and retrieves well. Think she thought me more now than I thought her. All said Pippa’s link is a great start. Enjoy and be surprised what these dogs are capable if you care to work with them. I am certainly at awe every walk I take with Perci :)

Thank you. It is amazing how they learn. Finley has become more interested in the Kong ball in the last couple of days. I’m taking Pippa’s advice and not taking the ball away if he decides to play with it. However, he always will drop naturally when there is a treat in my fist ready to be opened. Thanks for the advice.
