I am grieving the loss of my 10 year old Lab ( he would have turned 10 April 2019) , Einstein just 2 days ago. He was our angel . It all happened in just 5 days. Last Saturday we were at the vet's getting him checked. He had been lethargic and had lost appetite for about 4-5 days. My husband and I associated this to change in weather and his age and thought it was normal for them to feel lethargic as they got older. Einstein was also breathing a bit odd and coughed occasionally for about 3-4 days. When the vet saw him last Saturday he said he looked done
However, he felt a swollen lymph, checked his temperature. He was running a high fever (104 F). The vet put him on antibiotics as he suspected pneumonia and immediately proceeded to do Blood work. Results showed elevated WBC and chronic anemia, kidney and liver was clear. The vet was concerned and recommended X ray which confirmed pneumonia secondary to metastasis. The next 2 days Einstein barely ate and his breathing got worse. He had laboured shallow breathing, was restless and tired most of the time he did not sleep at night as his breathing seemed to get worse by evening. He seemed to have difficulty climbing up a flight of stairs. We were very worried as he was not eating much and took him back to the vet on 27th. We were informed that it was hemangiosarcoma and since Einsteins breathing was quite bad the vet was not sure if any meds would provide much relief, the cancer had already spread to his lungs. We had to make the most difficult decision of our life, our bighest fear was if it wa too early and if we should wait. The vet who is an amazing person, asked if we would rather be late and put our angel through pain and more discomfort. This type of cancer is very aggressive and he could end in a hemorrhagic death. We decided to let go of our darling Einstein and relieve him of pain and suffering. Einstein was put to sleep on Dec 27th evening. He was the most amazing dog and very special. He brought so much love and warmth , we are truly blessed to have had him in our life.

I am so very sorry to hear you have lost your beloved Einstein. He has had a wonderful life with you and while you re hurting deeply now, this will gradually ease and you will smile again, when you remember your dear boy.

We lost our only Lab, Scooby, to the same, horrible cancer. I feel your pain.

Dear Sunihat, I am so sorry for your loss & can feel your pain. We lost our 9 year old golden lab in April having gone through major surgery for cancer & just when we thought she had come through it all, she just crashed & burned within such a short space of time & yes the most devastating decision & the trauma of having to take them to the vets when there is nothing left to do is utterly heartbreaking. I am sure the time of year has made it even worse for you & your family & wish you strength & courage to get through it. Kindest regards, Edel.

    I am so
I am so sorry, my heart goes out to you.

We lost our beloved girl last year very suddenly and it's just awful. We brought a pretty box and put her collar, lead, favourite toy, blanket and eventually her ashes in and it's on top of our wardrobe, it made us feel like we were still looking after her. This helped us. You'll never forget your boy but they're will come a time when you can remember him and smile instead of cry. Thinking of you

So sorry to hear this. We lost our wonderful black lab last year and we still miss him hugely. One thing that has really helped us is an electronic picture frame where the pictures change automatically. We put lots of pictures of Our boy from pup to old age showing all the wonderful times.

It looks. Like this was over a year ago and. You have my condolences. I lost my dog a day after Christmas 2017 - he was 10 years old, also. I grieved for a year, fostered about 6 Labs (through a Labrador rescue organization) helping them to find forever families. Then in November of 2018, we fostered one with whom I immediately bonded. He has been my faithful companion now for about 1.5 years. I’ll never forget my best friend who died 2017 - Buddy - but I firmly believe I’ll see him again. I hope you find another.
This message is for the Sunhat, Finley, and everyone else who lost a dog recently. God bless all of you!
