Hello, we are looking at getting a black lab puppy! Most prices from breeders are coming up between £1300-£1600. on other websites/not breeders, they are between £700 and £1000. I am happy to pay for a healthy pup but I wasn’t sure if £1500 was a usual price to pay! The puppies are KC registered and are working/showing type.
It is at the moment. Prices have rocketed due to cv19. More import than price is that your pups parents are thought tested. Do not buy a pup because it's cheap because usually it is from none health tested parents.
Wow that’s expensive! We paid £850 from the Champdogs Website 2 years ago. I can’t believe they have gone up that much. Is that a cross between a working lab and a show lab? Make sure all health checks are at low levels and COI below the recommended 6.5% for a lab. Happy hunting!
I thought that, yes it’s showing and working. That’s why I posted because the average is up to £850 but when I enquire about the puppies from the breeders most have said around £1500! Thank you for your reply.
Good grief! That's horrendously expensive! I keep an eye on the Champdogs site just out of interest. You can find well bred, health tested pups for around the £900 - £1000 mark. I paid £800 for my black working x show bred pup 3 yrs ago. Good luck with your search.
If you want a working lab, try gundogs direct. Lots of health tested dogs just under the £1000 pound price mark
That is more than I would expect to pay in the States. Cooper was $1000 or $1200 6 years ago, and I still see ads in that range. She is a field dog and both her mom and dad have hunting titles. Do remember that it is still only a small part of the cost for the first few years.
Was browsing Pets 4 homes yesterday and there are some silver and charcoal labs for sale for £3000 ! Utterly bonkers !
We found some on champdogs for around £1000-£1200. However so many of the waiting lists are full! It’s crazy they sell them for that much. I thought they weren’t even classed as a colour.
Yes, you are right. Not sure if they are classed as yellow or chocolate. Designer dogs gone mad. They don't even list any of the health tests, just hip and elbow scores. Should not be allowed, poor pups heaven knows where they will end up.
I find that in general dogs are way to cheap and hence people are willing to take a punt. Hence the pounds are overflowing. Also people don’t incl the cost of a dog over its lifetime. The most important focus should be on quality of breeder and parents medical record. That will make the difference in a dog. the other topic with to much focus is on whether it is parents are champions. For most owners that makes no difference and it seems there are champion parents around every corner. good dogs should be expensive and worth it because the good breeder spends time picking their dogs carefully, with focus on health and character. They also make sure that when the pass on the dog after 8 weeks the dog has been well looked after but at end each to their own
