Hello all. We have a 6 month old male black lab. He is overly chilled out and does not get excited about much. Walk times he lays on the floor with his lead on at home. No tail wagging. (Fine when out with other dogs. Loves playing with them) at home 2x kids and wife. He just seems to be chilled. Does not chew things. Sleeps from 9pm to 6am. Can leave him on his own fine. All seems a bit to easy. I thought a puppy would be on the energetic side. we feed him grain free food. Stomach seems to like it. Has a bone a few times a week and we feed him 3x 130 grams a day. I was wondering if it was an energy thing? Or a toy thing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated just for Peace of mind
There is more variety in the Labrador breed than just about any other breed, is one thing I've learned! From small, high energy and very pumped up field bred Labs, to large, ploddy and low energy show-bred or pet dogs - and then everything in between. From dogs which love people to the point that it is hard to stop them wanting to leap all over and lick every person - to dogs which are actually a bit spooky around people. From dogs which are obsessed with other dogs, to dogs which couldn't care less. It may well just be that your puppy is a lower energy dog... It is highly likely to be very normal for your puppy. It could also be that your time out with other dogs which he 'loves playing with' is actually very exhausting for him, so he just wants to sleep and lie around when he is at home. Letting puppies play excessively with other dogs regularly, is not necessarily a good thing and can cause a lot of problems - so you could try stopping that and replacing it with training him and see if that changes his energy levels.
