Hi, I just got a new puppy who is now 10 weeks old. I have read and watched videos on how to cope with biting, but I am not sure what I am supposed to do when the puppy hangs onto my pants. It is sometimes hard to get away to go to the over side of the gate. Any suggestions on what I should do? I am also wondering how I stop the puppy from chewing on furniture, wires etc.? Do I say no and pull him away and redirect his attention? What if I can't do that? Finally, I am working on making the crate/kennel a happy place, but my puppy is not interested in the frozen Kong, toys or anything else. He immediately cries and howls. He has been with us for 5 days and I know he needs more time to get acclimated, but what do I do when I need to leave the house for 15 minutes to shop, etc.? I would appreciate some help. Thanks.
I’d recommend looking At the articles recommended in the pinned post on the forum. There are loads of tips covering all the things you mention Good luck!
The frozen kong might be too hard for him so he loses motivation to try, have you tried lick mats instead? Same concept as frozen kong use some puppy paste freeze it but the pup has direct access so will be busy licking away. I put one in the crate and locked it and she is happy and it can last a long time, easily 15 minutes. With the biting the best thing I have found that works is redirecting on to something safe to bite/chew, keep doing it consistently and it will eventually sink in.
Sounds a bit silly but I just wore tighter pants! I wore tight jeans for 4 weeks, (and wellies on occasion too!) We're at 16 weeks now and it gets a lot better!!!
